The splashpad at Pimpama Aquatic Centre was conceived as a sensory environment as much as a water play destination — a deliberate response to a facility designed from the ground up to merge the natural environment with contemporary recreation. A considered range of textures, surfaces and sculptural forms were composed to create varied and distinct experiences across the space, each one heightened and transformed by the presence of water. Rather than defaulting to standard water play typologies, the design layers tactile and physical discovery into every element — rewarding exploration and engaging children across a broad age range. The result is a splashpad that holds its own within an award-winning facility, setting a benchmark for what water play design can be.
